Cause of camper’s death unknown

It will likely be a few weeks before it’s known what caused the death of a music fan who attended the 2008 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Benjamin Muller, of La Mesa, died April 28 after being found unresponsive near the site of the Coachella music festival. Various music websites and fan forums report that the 21-year-old had been camping near the festival site with a group of friends.

Muller was taken to a hospital after he was found unconscious in a tent on a private estate near the festival.

Officials at the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine the cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.

According to the Riverside County coroner’s office, Muller died in the emergency room at JFK Hospital in Indio.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was held the last weekend in April at Empire Polo in Indio.

According to promoter Goldenvoice, Muller was found at an unsanctioned campground near the festival site, not at the venue’s camp sites.
