The latest in a series of Southland coyote attacks happened in a Lake Arrowhead front yard late Tuesday morning.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Melissa Rowley had just finished taking pictures of her 2-year-old daughter and three other children in the 28700 block of Laurel Drive at approximately 11:45 a.m.; when she went inside to put the camera away, a coyoted grabbed her daughter by the head and began dragging her toward the street.
Rowley saw what was happening as she came out of the house and ran at the coyote, which jumped back and released the girl.
Rowley took her daughter to a local hospital; the girl was then airlifted to Loma Linda University Hospital. She suffered punctures to the head and neck and a cut on her mouth, but is expected to fully recover.
Authorities are searching for the coyote; if you see any in the area, please contact Fish and Game, Animal Control or the sheriff’s department.
Elsewhere in San Bernardino County, four attacks have been reported in or near a Chino Hills park during the past eight months; last week, a toddler was bitten in Alterra Park.
