The following information has been provided by the Western Municipal Water District:

Western Municipal Water District presented a check for the amount of $149,596 to the Riverside Unified School District for their water conservation efforts in partnership with Riverside Public Utilities.

Rebates are offered to public agencies that take action to conserve water. RUSD was presented with the check July 7 for the installation of 18 central irrigation controllers at 11 school sites and water brooms at each of the District’s 49 school sites.

“Our District continually seeks out efficient and environmentally responsible methods of building and maintaining school facilities,” said Dr. Chuck Beaty, president of the RUSD Board of Education. “With these grants, we are able to provide an excellent benefit to our schools at a fraction of the cost while helping to save a substantial amount of water. We appreciate the partnership with Western Municipal Water District and Riverside Public Utilities.”

As a member agency of Metropolitan Water District, Western has been working with other public agencies, such as RUSD and RPU, to reduce dependence on imported water. In a time when citizens are looking to public agencies to set an example for the community, Western, RUSD and RPU are proving that water use efficiency is something that not only can be accomplished, but must be demonstrated at every level. “This is a perfect example of public agencies walking the talk and leading the way for residents,” said Western Board President, S.R. “Al” Lopez, who is also Western’s representative to the Metropolitan Board of Directors.

“Successful public education partnerships like these assist all of our agencies in raising awareness levels of the public while helping to increase water use efficiency,” said Riverside Public Utilities General Manager David H. Wright.
