Veronica Marie Boyce Vincent

Veronica Marie Boyce Vincent, born September 18, 1918, was the youngest of five children born to Patrick and Katherine Boyce in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from Creighton University in 1941 with a degree in Business. While at Creighton, she met her future husband, Tom Vincent, whom she married after the war on June 7, 1947.

Married until his death 35 years later, they had four children: Tom, Liz, John and Art. In 1957 they settled in San Bernardino, CA. where Veronica resided for 45 years, until her recent move to Fresno in 2003, where she lived until her death. She was a homemaker, she was active in community and school activities, being an active guild member at St. Bernardine’s Hospital.

What is missing in this chronology is the reason why Veronica was so deeply loved and will be sorely missed by her family. She consistently placed the needs of others before her own, caring for an ill spouse, and later a terminally ill sibling with grace and compassion.

She was selfless, generous at the expense of her own wishes, yet understated so that recognition of her acts came by way of the sheer number of them, rather than attempt to call attention to herself. She was warm, witty and fiercely loyal to her family, as exemplified by her encouragement and support of their life choices.

In short, she modeled the fortitude and quiet source of strength that allowed her children to grow and nurture their own families.

She is loved, mourned and survived by her four children and eleven grandchildren.

The Rosary will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 11 am at Our lady of the Rosary Cathedral, in San Bernardino, CA, followed by mass at 11:30 am and interment at Riverside National Cemetery.

The family is asking for donations to a charity, such as American Cancer Society, in Veronica’s name instead of flowers.
