The following information has been provided by the City of Riverside:
As part of the city’s ongoing Riverside Renaissance, this $22 million project will widen Van Buren Boulevard from two to three lanes in each direction between Jackson Street and Jurupa Avenue.
This project also will provide landscaped medians and parkways, new sidewalks, and bike lanes. The result will be improved traffic flow and increased pedestrian safety. Also, new reclaimed water lines and upgraded sewer lines promote the City’s environmental sustainability efforts, while undergrounding utility lines will provide for a more scenic drive.
Starting July 6, night-lane closures will occur on Van Buren Boulevard between Jackson Street and Jurupa Avenue. To minimize traffic impacts, lane closures are limited to between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.; at least one lane in each direction will remain open for traffic during any closures.
Daytime work will not impact travel lanes. Pedestrian and business access will be maintained throughout the project.
The project is expected to be completed in fall 2010.
