The Tampa Bay Rays’ win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday afternoon sends the Florida team to the American League Championship Series for the first time ever.
The Rays beat the Sox 6-2 to win the divisional series, three games to one.
The White Sox’s neighbors, the Chicago Cubs, were the first team eliminated from the playoffs when they were swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The final divisional series could be decided this evening — the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are scheduled to take on the Red Sox in Boston at 5:37 p.m. Pacific. The Sox won the first two games in the best-of-five series; the Angels won Sunday’s game, but it took 12 innings.
