The Sesnon Fire began late Monday morning near Porter Ranch; as of 7 p.m., the County of Los Angeles Fire Department reported it had already burned some 5,000 acres.
There is no word on containment, and structures are threatened.
Higher winds are expected for Monday night.
Evacuations are in place for residents of Box Canyon, Bell Canyon, Woolsey Canyon, Lake Manor, Dayton Canyon, Brown Canyon, the Twin Lakes area and west of Valley Circle.
