The following information has been provided by the Riverside Police Department:

At 7:50 a.m., the Riverside Police Department Communication’s Center received a call of a found deceased subject in the river-bottom area adjacent to Old Ranch Rd. and Rubidoux Ave. in the city of Riverside. Police officers and personnel from the Riverside City Fire Department responded to the scene and discovered a tunnel with a deceased subject inside it.

Detectives from the Homicide unit along with personnel from the Forensic Evidence Unit and Riverside Public Works assisted with retrieving the body.

It is unclear as to why the male subject had built the tunnel in the river-bottom area.  An autopsy has been scheduled to help determine cause of death.

The name of the deceased subject will be released by the Coroner’s Office pending notification to next of kin.
