Sculpture to be rededicated at fire station on 9/11

tripod0910.jpgRiverside firefighters who responded to the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks on 9/11 will be honored Thursday at a rededication of landmark sculpture.

The ceremony for “Tripod,” which once stood outside Riverside City Hall, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fire Station No. 5, 5883 Arlington Ave.

The piece is by modern artist James Rosati; another of Rosati’s pieces, done in 1969 for the World Trade Center, was destroyed when the buildings collapsed.

“This event is an opportunity to honor the response by our firefighters seven years ago,”  Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge said in a city press release. “And as a way to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The event is open to the public and includes a continental breakfast.
