Richard Leonard Holmes 49, of Cherry Valley, CA, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the San Gorgonian Pass Memorial Hospital in Banning, surrounded by his family. He was born August 31, 1960, a tribal member of the Morongo Indian Reservation who lived in the Banning Pass area most of his life.

For the past 3 years Richard waged a brave battle against kidney disease before succumbing to complications.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 from 3-8pm with Memorial Service at 7pm, Wiefels & son Mortuary, 50 E. Nicolet St., Banning, CA. There will be an all night Wake, Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at 5pm, Morongo Community Center, 13000 Fields Road, Morongo Indian Reservation. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at 10am, Twin Eagle Ministry, 12755 Ruiz Road, Morongo Indian Reservation - Interment Morongo Catholic Cemetery.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, William Pablo Holmes; mother, Gladys Agnes Holmes; brothers, Arthur Roberson, Carl Leonard Ward and Wayne Thomas Ward.

He leaves behind daughter, Elizabeth Ann Holmes of Banning; son, Robert Linton Holmes of Cherry Valley; life partner, Martha Olivia Silva of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Genesis Lara of Banning, Ariya Lara of Banning, Dominic Lara of Banning and Sonia Holmes of Cherry Valley; brothers, Charles Ward of Thermal, CA, Robert C. Holmes of Hercules, CA, William Schunke of Riverside, CA and Angelo Schunke of Yucaipa, CA; sisters, Linda Angulano of Banning, Deborah Briones of Banning, Diane Castillo of Thermal, CA, Rosalle Neilly of Rialto, CA, Elizabeth Perez of Cherry Valley, Juanita Lombardi of Cherry Valley, Alice Sano of Hercules, CA and Desiree Schunke of Riverside, CA.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family who loved him very much.
