The following information has been provided by the Redlands Police Department:
Police received the call of a suspicious vehicle in the alley behind the Domino’s Pizza at 345 W. Pearl Ave. shortly before midnight Saturday, Oct. 4.
Officers arrived as the vehicle, a brown 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, drove away east on Pearl Avenue. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver led them on a short pursuit through a shopping center parking lot on Orange Street.
After the driver yielded to police, officers searched the area where the passenger, 31-year-old Jason Cardoza, had thrown the object and found a loaded semi-automatic handgun which had been reported stolen in Yucaipa.
Cardoza, a San Bernardino resident, is a convicted felon and documented Redlands gang member. He was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property.
The driver, 35-year-old Ronald Montoya, of Bloomington, a documented Rialto gang member, was arrested for evading police and for being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Another of the vehicle’s passengers, 36-year-old San Bernardino resident Jose Ramirez, was also found in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun reported stolen in San Bernardino. Ramirez, a convicted felon, was arrested.
