A non-profit consumer credit counseling firm will open a Riverside office on Wednesday. It’s another sign of businesses responding the growing need for consumer help with credit and financing issues.
The so-called SHINE center stands for “Sustaining Homeownership in the Inland Empire.” According to a press release from Springboard, which operates the center, SHINE will offer in-person counseling sessions for foreclosure prevention, credit and debt counseling, bankruptcy pre-filing counseling.
Many of the advice services are being offered via telephone. “People can call and make an appointment to receive free debt advice on the telephone” says Sheri Stuart, with Springboard. Other services are offered for a fee. Comprehensive debt management counseling is $50; the fee can be waived in some circumstances. “Springboard receives the majority of its funding from HUD, HPA, the Homeowners Preservation Foundation, and some grants, says Stuart.
The SHINE Center will open at 11:00 a.m. on October 8th. It is located at 1605 Spruce Street in Riverside. The center can be reached at 951-781-0114.
