Marie Lillian Berner Grimes December 9, 1918 ~ November 4, 2009 born in Queens, New York, Marie volunteered at the USO during WWII.
That is where she met Thomas F. Grimes on leave from the Navy. They were married on November 20, 1944 at Norfolk, VA. Their loving relationship lasted 49 years until his death in 1994. They moved from New York to Los Angeles in 1951 and to Corona in 1954.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, countless holidays and celebrations were held at her home; attended by family and friends. She worked as a window clerk at the Corona Post Office from 1961 until she retired in April of 1981. She was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church for 57 years. Many whose lives she touched with her caring and kindness will miss her.
She is survived by two daughters, Luana Barnes and Sandi Kindberg-Lopez, both of Corona; two sons, Tom Grimes of Calimesa and Rick Grimes of Talent, Oregon; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Nov. 13 at 12pm at St. Edward Catholic Church, 417 W. Grand Blvd., Corona. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Marie’s honor.
