The California Department of Motor Vehicles has a new, larger, energy-efficient East Riverside office at 6425 Sycamore Canyon Blvd.
From the landscaping, done by Levi’s Landscaping, to the building itself, it’s all designed to maximize energy conservation, according to a statement issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The new 14,491-square-foot office replaces the temporary DMV quarters, at 1695 Spruce Street since 2006. The DMV expecs the new office will handle 206,000 customers annually with 31 DMV employees.
The new DMV building has also achieved Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System for meeting the high standards for energy and resource conservation. The building features natural day and energy-efficient lighting, heating and ventilation systems. A sleek contemporary building design and materials were used to reduce harmful pollutants. The facility is landscaped with native, drought-tolerant, low-maintenance plants that require minimum water usage.
The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. It was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, a 10,000 member non-profit trade organization, which has developed the LEED system to promote a whole-building approach to sustainability.
