During the first week of September, Los Angeles-area radio listeners heard a seismic shift on the AM dial. Dr. Laura Schlessinger switched from KFI-AM to KFWB-AM. After more than 20 years, Schlessinger was on a new frequency.
KFWB, known as the location on the dial for “all news, all the time” became the Los Angeles anchor for the syndicated-radio show hosted by Schlessinger.
In the 1990s, when her local show was syndicated, it was an instant success and now rivals Rush Limbaugh in the ratings.
While working as a local-talk host, Schlessinger was a ratings darling among listeners in the Riverside-San Bernardino area. KFI’s singal blasts into this area of Southern California as if it were a local station, and without a local competitor, Dr. Laura spent the ’80s and ’90s grooming a strong group of Inland Empire listeners.
In this interview, Schlessinger talks about the switch and discusses why she left KFI. Dr. Laura also shares her thoughts on how the economy is affecting relationships.
Her program is broadcast on KFWB (980 AM) weekdays between noon and 3 p.m.
