A Riverside backyard that used to have nearly 3000 square feet of lawn has become one of the greenest backyards in the entire city.
Keep Riverside Clean and Beautiful, also known as KRCB, held a raffle for a $10,000 waterwise landscape make over project. Riverside Public Utilities along with Western Municipal Water District donated cash to help foot the bill for a yard that would become a prime example of water conservation efforts.
The xeriscape makeover project is designed to encourage residential property owners in Riverside use water-wise landscaping, install drip systems for their front and backyard irrigation, and use native plants and trees. The result is a significant water-bill savings; it’s also a proactive approach homeowners can take as California deals with a growing drought problem.
The landscape project featured in this story was installed by Paradise Garden Center, and designed by the Inland Empire Chapter California Landscape Contractors Assoc., and Ian Davidson Landscape Architectur.

LOL Riverside is not a “desert community” Someone please take that woman out to Palm Springs or better yet, Blythe and then have her get back to me. For the most part I think the waterwise landscapes look terrible. This one is fairly decent though, mostly because it was well designed. And there is space to do cool things. I think this is okay for backyards but for front yards, the effect is just not the same. The houses look trashy, at least the ones I’ve seen so far.
