Janice Ellen Logan, 99

janicelogan.jpg Janice Ellen Logan was born April 5, 1909 in Barre, Vermont, the only child of Edward and Cecilia (Frenier) Anderson. In 1919, the family moved to Los Angeles, California. Janice enrolled in UCLA when it first opened and graduated with her teaching credential in 1932.

While at UCLA, she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. One of her fondest memories was the sorority’s house morning ritual of cranking up Janice’s Model T Ford, and everyone climbing in, hanging off the floorboards to make the trip to classes. Janice loved to dance and did perform a few times on stage in the early 1930’s. In 1933, she appeared in the crowded theater scene in the original King Kong movie.

After college, Janice worked at Hollywood High School as the attendance counselor. She could spend hours relating the trials and tribulations she had working with young stars such as Mickey Rooney and Lana Turner. In 1948, she married Raymond Mylett Logan.

Soon she had two sons, Stephen Thomas Logan and Gregory Paul Logan. The family moved to Rivera (now Pico Rivera) and Raymond started the Graphic Arts Credit Union. Janice worked in the family business in addition to raising their two sons. Her life was filled with traveling, camping, golf and socializing with all their friends.

In 1982, her beloved mother, Cecilia, died. Shortly thereafter, Raymond became ill. She nursed him for four years until his death in 1986. In 1987 she moved to Riverside to be closer to her grandchildren.

She became an active member of the Catholic Daughters, she studied Tai Chi at the Goeske Center, and she was a member of a line-dancing troupe which performed all over Southern California. She was able to travel with Stephen’s family to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Cambria, San Francisco, Tucson, and St. Louis.

When she was diagnosed with macular degeneration, she started computer lessons using a special program which allowed her to continue to correspond with her friends and family. Janice never stopped learning and never lost her enthusiasm for life. She was helping to plan for her 100th birthday party at the Mission Inn last week when she entered the hospital for breathing problems and was unable to recover.

Janice is survived by her sons, Stephen Thomas Logan (Lennett) and Gregory Paul Logan; her grandchildren, Andrew Wayne Logan (Sarah), Timothy David Logan, Kathleen Louise Logan Gurnee (Frank) and Salime Max Boucher (Natalia) and 8 great-grandchildren, Anna Logan, Quinten Logan, Teach Gurnee, Corinne Gurnee, Ian Gurnee, Sophia Boucher, Lorena Boucher and Nico Boucher.
