James Murcray, former Calimesa Chamber of Commerce president passed away November 16, 2009. He was 59 years old. Jim was a resident of Beaumont, CA and died in Riverside. Jim was born in Compton, CA on December 2, 1949 to William and Margaret Murcray.
He grew up in Lakewood, CA where he graduated from Mayfair High School. He went to California Baptist College in Riverside, CA and graduated in June of 1972. While at CBC he met and married Patricia Connary. Jim later went on to Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his Masters in Divinity.
Jim, a pastor to several churches in California was also a Director of Missions for the Southern Baptist Convention. Jim was also the founder of Vision Plus Recovery, a ministry to help churches recover from a down turn and begin growing again. After moving to Beaumont, Jim became a Funeral Director for Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Calimesa. Jim’s life was service oriented. He loved to help others.
Jim was active in his children’s school as PTA president and SITE Council president. He conducted numerous seminars and trainings for new pastors and Sunday School leaders. Jim was a field supervisor for students learning how to minister in churches. He also went to American Samoa to help churches.
Jim leaves behind the love of his life, Patricia to whom he was married for nearly 38 years. He also leaves behind two sons and their wives, Joshua and Keri, and Ted and Brook, one daughter, Kristin and one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Jim and six grandchildren, Kyle, Malachi, Melyssa, Ethan, Elias, and Aiden.
Jim also has a brother Rod, a brother-in-law Ted, and numerous nephews and a niece.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 21st at The Vision Plus Church. The church is located at 4318 Pyrite St., Riverside, CA. All are welcome to attend. Interment will be a private service at Desert Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Calimesa. Desert Lawn Funeral Home is handling arrangements www.caringfuneralservice.com
