James M. Butler Butler, James M., 76 of Moreno Valley passed away Tuesday September 30, 2008 in Baltimore, MD while on vacation, with his family by his side.
Jim was born on May 22, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland to James Butler and Angela Reynolds, the fourth of five children. In 1952 he entered the United States Air Force and while stationed at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid CIty, South Dakota met the love of his life, Geraldine Treptow, in 1954. They were married June 1, 1955.
Jim’s military career took them to Germany and Massachusettes among other places. In 1970 he was transferred to March AFB where he retired in 1980 after 28 years of military service. He went on to work for the Riverside County District Attorney, Family Support Division from 1980 to 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Moreno Valley, and his 4 children Amy (Steve) Gonzales of Fontana, Julie Butler of San Clemente, Andrew Butler of Riverside and John (Melissa) Butler of Riverside. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Katie West and Jacob Butler, sister Ellen Colangelo of Baltimore, Maryland, and numerous nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers William, Charles and Jerry.
Jim was active on the school board at St. James School in Perris, California while two of his children attended. He enjoyed planning Christmas parties and reunions for his squadron while in the military. He loved refinishing furniture, doing the daily crossword puzzle and playing golf, including marshalling at Quail Ranch Golf Course. Jim had a beautiful singing voice. He was known for his wit, love of people and great sense of humor. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He is dearly loved by his family and they will miss him and his laughter forever.
A funeral mass will be Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at 12:00 noon, San Secondo D’Asti Catholic Church, 250 N. Turner, Guasti, CA followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm at the Riverside National Cemetery.
