July 24, 2009 will mark one year since the death of Christopher Laurie, the son of pastor Greg Laurie.
Laurie died July 24, 2008 when he slammed into the back of a Caltrans truck on eastbound Highway 91 in Corona. Laurie was traveling alone in his Dodge Magnum in the carpool lane.
By February The Riverside County coroner had released autopsy results; Lt. Cynthia Mayman said toxicology reports did not reveal the presence of alcohol or illicit drugs. “The cause of death is listed as cranio-cerebral trauma — blunt-impact head injuries,” Mayman said.
On Monday The California Highway Patrol said that it had not completed its investigation into the crash. “The report is still under investigation,” according to Sylvia Mosley, Public Information Officer with the Riverside area Caliornia highway Patrol. Mosley added that there is no estimated time for completion.
In February a Caltrans representative informed InstantRiverside.com that the family of Christopher Laurie had filed a claim against the agency, often the precursor to a lawsuit.
It is unclear what the family is seeking. Media representatives at Harvest Christian Fellowship directed questions to a representative based in another state, who did not return calls.
As a matter of procedure, claims for death or injury to a person must be filed within six months after an incident. The Laurie claim was filed roughly 5 months after the crash.
According to Caltrans claims are reviewed by a three-member Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board.
If the claim is denied, the Laruie family may pursue the matter in court. At that time their claim, and its specific requests would become a matter of public record.
