In the days since the earthquake in Haiti, Americans have shown their generosity with millions of dollars in donations.

President Obama signed a bill into law that makes it easier to give to Haiti relief. This legislation will allow taxpayers to receive the tax benefit from donations made to the Haiti effort in this tax season, rather than having to wait until they file their 2010 tax returns next year.

Altura Credit Union has established a Haiti Relief Fund and is urging all its 110,000 members to donate $1. “We are asking for a small individual donation, but by working together we can make a significant contribution to the American Red Cross for Haiti relief,” said Mark Hawkins, Altura CEO.

Riverside County public health officials are launching a major six-week initiative to vaccinate children for free for H1N1 at more than 50 schools.
