Attack on Chabad Jewish Center in Riverside
The Hate Crime committed against the Chabad Jewish Community Center in Riverside was not only a crime against Rabbi Fuss, his family & Judaism. It was a crime against the civil rights of all good people who believe and stand up for Freedom, Honesty and Religious Tolerance. Hate crimes go against everything that we as Americans stand for and the laws we abide by. I visited The Riverside Jewish Center the day after these cowardly acts were done, attended the Sabbath Service and Dinner. Most of the Swastikas and anti-Semitic remarks were cleaned away but “cleaning” cannot take away the fear that Hate Groups exist even in today’s times. Rabbi Fuss while worried about his family and the Jewish community takes the approach that we as a community must learn from this and move forward. He worries that Hate Group’s intolerance will hurt others as they did the Jewish Community Center. He is a good man. He and his family open their hearts and the Jewish Center to everyone, Jew and Non-Jew alike.
I as an American, a Jew and a member of this community worry that even in these times Hate Groups exist and could carry out such terrible, horrible, cowardly acts. Hate groups should not be tolerated and should be illegal. Their attempts to infiltrate our cities and our schools must be stopped by enacting laws that would make such groups illegal. The terrible things these criminals wrote at the Chabad Jewish Center were things that would have had to be taught by older members of the hate group. I believe they were directed by leaders of these hate groups. We as Americans must always remember the Holocaust and the millions of Jews and others that died at the Nazis’ ruthless hands. Whatever it takes we must never forget these atrocities. We must take all and every measure to insure that these things can never happen again. I would like to add that the City of Riverside and Riverside Law Enforcement have been doing a great job in assisting in the Jewish Center’s time of need and in trying to catch these criminals. I ask the community and members of all faiths and walks of life to band together to legally fight against hate groups and the acts they commit in spreading the garbage they call a cause. If you see such acts of vandalism please call 911 immediately. If you know of those who have committed these acts at the Chabad Riverside Jewish Center on Arlington please call the Police and let them know where they can be found. Together as a community we can overcome all obstacles. “We can learn from this” as Rabbi Fuss suggests.
Sincerely & Respectfully,
Manuel “Manny” Blanco
Proud Jewish American
