April 22 is Earth Day. What to do to observe it?
As a news organization we began to ponder that question a couple of months ago. Yes, we’ve covered our share of news on the subject of going green. And last July we provided coverage of the Live Earth concert event that had rock stars jetting across the globe to support awareness for global climate change.
The Live Earth shows looked like fun, but they didn’t connect to deliver an effective “green” message.
And yes, Earth Day brings along strong supporters and detractors. It’s political.
This month, in our news reports on InstantRiverside.com, we will tell several remarkable stories about people and businesses in the Inland Empire that are going green. Solar power is prominent in our reports. For some the driving force is their desire to use clean energy. For all, the idea of little or no electric bill is huge.
Our coverage provides a mix of that “blue-sky thinking”– the kind of stuff only some people will do, but that most will find fascinating. There are several smaller and easier ideas that will also save you money.
You’ll learn a lot from our media partners who are experts in conservation; Riverside Public Utilities, Taylor’s Appliances and MohrPower.com.
Our reports will begin publishing to the site this week. Later this month we’ll present a 30-minute program on KVCR-TV: “Going Green in the IE” will be broadcast at 3:30 p.m. on April 20. We’ll share more about the program next week.
So to the question of what to do to observe Earth Day? At InstantRiverside.com we’ll cover it by showing you the real-world things being done by people in the Inland Empire.
Many energy-saving appliances come with hefty rebates, and Energy Star lights use less power. If our reports help you go green in the wallet, I’m sure we’ll hear no complaints.
