The following information has been provided by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department:
On June 29, 2009 at 5:15 p.m., Sergeant Al Girard was leaving the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center after his shift and noticed Salinas Flores dressed in jail clothing hiding behind a car in the employee parking area. Sgt. Girard confronted Salinas Flores, who had just escaped from the facility and took him into custody without incident.
Investigators learned Salinas Flores scaled a twenty foot fence topped with barbed wire, ran across a rooftop, scaled another brick pillar to another rooftop and jumped into the employee parking area.
Salinas Flores was in custody for a narcotics violation and was due to be released on an immigration hold on July 1, 2009. Investigators learned Salinas feared he was going to be deported to El Salvador and escaped from custody to avoid being deported.
After his arrest, Salinas was booked at the West Valley Detention Center for escape. Salinas Flores is being held without bail.
