On September 7, the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to Chase School Road and Singing Hills regarding a missing person. Escondido Police Department has received reports that Genevieve MacMahon, 85 of Escondido, had been reported by family members as a missing person.

MacMahon had driven her Ford Escape to a wedding in Cathedral City. She never arrived at the wedding. On September 8, a family friend listened to a message MacMahon had left on the answering machine the previous night. The message stated she had some type of vehicle trouble.

MacMahon’s cell phone was located in the desert area. County deputies and Sheriff’s Aviation responded to conduct a search. The vehicle and MacMahon were located about ½ mile into the desert, north of the Chase School Road cul-de-sac. The sheriff’s department helicopter landed and located MacMahon, who was deceased.

Her vehicle was stuck in the sand and she was located approximately 25 yards from the vehicle. It appears MacMahon became lost, got stuck, attempted to walk away from the vehicle and became disoriented.
