The FDIC’s insurance fund posted a loss of $8.2 billion in 3Q of 2009. The agency added 136 insured banks to its list of “problem” banks.
Most recently, On Friday, December 18, 2009, First Federal Bank of California, a Federal Savings Bank (First Federal Bank of California), Santa Monica, CA was closed by the Office of Thrift Supervision.
No advance notice is given to the public when a financial institution is closed.
