houlihan_douglas.jpg Douglas Houlihan 87, passed away on November 19, 2009, at the Hemet Valley Medical Center.

Douglas, the second of five children, was born on June 5, 1922 on a farm near Lane, South Dakota. He grew up on the farm, and attended Meyer Grade School, and then Lane High School where he graduated in 1941. He was attending Sioux Falls College when he was first drafted into the U.S. Army-Air Force in 1942. He was stationed in Saipan, where he served until the end of World War II in 1945. Upon returning home from the war he resumed his college education and earned his B.A. degree in Social Science from Sioux Falls College.

Douglas married Marian (Bonnie) Brandon in 1947. He taught high school and coached basketball and football in South Dakota until 1960 when they moved their family to Southern California. Douglas worked as a Refrigeration Engineer until his retirement in 1984.  They lived in Montclair, Ontario, and Upland until moving to Hemet in 1988.

He is survived by eight children, Pallas Vititoe of Hemet, California; Pamela Houlihan-Tonyan of Los Angeles, California; Timothy Houlihan of Riverside, California; Dennis Houlihan of Redlands, California; Kelly Houlihan of Hesperia, California; Becky Traynor of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jesse Houlihan of Rancho Cucamonga, California; and Jodi Beltran of Hemet, California; ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, after 50 years of marriage; two sons, David and Daniel; his mother and father; and one sister.

The Visitation and Rosary will be held at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet, California on Monday November 30, 2009 from 4pm-8pm (Rosary service at 6pm). The Funeral Mass will be at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in San Jacinto, California on December 1, 2009 at 10am. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Covina, California.
