On Tuesday, the Minnesota Supreme Court ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state’s Senate race, according to the Associated Press.
Republican Norm Coleman has launched a series of challenges to Franken’s win in an extremely close race. The state court said Franken is entitled to the certificate he needs to take office.
The reason Franken’s win is important on a national level is because it gives Democrats enough of a majority to defeat Republican filibusters in the Senate.
Coleman may again challenge the move.
The soonest the former “Saturday Night Live” star could take office is next week because of the holiday weekend.
