Holiday trees to be recycled across Riverside County

thetreeoflife.jpgHoliday news headline from the County of Riverside:

Christmas trees are being accepted at locations throughout the county for free disposal.

Trees must be prepared for recycling by removing all decorations, lights, tinsel, and tree stands. In addition to the county drop-off locations, most trash haulers will be collecting Christmas trees for two weeks after Dec. 25.

Place the prepared tree next to the green waste container on your regular pick-up day. Trees over 4 feet tall should be cut in half.

Recycled trees are turned into mulch and compost, which can be used as an amendment to improve soil conditions. Trees that are not recycled take up valuable space in landfills.

Flocked trees cannot be recycled and need to be cut up and placed in your regular trash container.

For residents without a curbside pickup program, the following drop-off locations will accept Christmas trees:

· A. Lua Wood Recycling, 18938 Mermack Ave., Lake Elsinore
· B.P. John Recycling, 28700 Matthews Rd., Romoland
· Badlands Landfill, 31125 Ironwood Ave, Moreno Valley
· California Biomass, 83-109 Avenue 62, Thermal
· Coachella Valley Compost Facility, 87-011 Landfill Rd., Indio
· Lamb Canyon Landfill, 16411 Lamb Canyon Rd., Beaumont
· Burrtec Recycling, 41-800 Corporate Way, Palm Desert
· Robert A Nelson Transfer Station, 1830 Agua Mansa Rd., Riverside (will accept trees from City of Riverside residents only for free recycling).
· Southern California Recyclers, 29-250 Rios del Sol, Thousand Palms
