The Redlands Police Department arrested a suspected bank robber in Long Beach just a day after the suspect held up a bank in downtown Redlands.
Just before 10:00 a.m. Friday morning on February 5th, a robber entered the Chase Bank on 4 West Redlands Blvd. and demanded money from a teller. He told her that he had a gun, though no gun was seen, according to police. He escaped on foot with several thousand dollars in cash.
Using cell phone technology, police investigators were able to transmit bank surveillance photos and a description of a suspect vehicle to department personnel and widely distribute the descriptions to other agencies.
FBI investigators identified the suspect as Mr. Daniel Earl Watson, 43, of Redlands. Several hours later, Long Beach Police located the suspect vehicle at a motel on Pacific Coast Highway and contacted Redlands Police, who then traveled to Long Beach to set up surveillance.
At 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, a search warrant was served at the motel where police located Mr. Watson along with clothing matching the description of those worn during the robbery and several thousand dollars in cash.
Watson was arrested without incident and transported back to Redlands to be charged with bank robbery.
