A body discovered in Big Bear Lake on Thursday morning is believed to be that of a 33-year-old Alhambra man who jumped into the lake on Friday to help a struggling swimmer.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the missing man had jumped off a rental boat Friday afternoon to help someone who had previously jumped from the boat and struggled in rough waters; a third person jumped in when the victim began to struggle, too. The victim disappeared into the water, but the other two made it back to the boat.
Authorities searched the lake, conditions permitting, through the weekend.
A man on a jet ski found a body, presumed to be the missing man, floating face down at approximately 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
The San Bernardino County coroner’s office will make a positive ID and determine the cause of death.
