Health care reform barely passed the House of Representatives, on Saturday night. The final number was 220-215, H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act passed. The bill had just one Republican vote, 39 Democrats voted against it.
The Senate will vote on a version of the health care legislation debated in that chamber.
Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Riverside, CA) was unavailable to discuss his vote with InstantRiverside.com. He is being challenged in the upcoming election by Bill Hedrick, a Democrat who would like to represent the 44th Congressional District.
The health care measure has deeply divided various groups. The AARP endorsed it. The association claims nearly 40 million members.
“Among those needs are reforms that strictly curb insurance companies’ discrimination against older Americans and Medicare improvements that strengthen benefits while protecting theprogram for future generations,” according to a statement released by the AARP.
