Carl Edwards won Sunday’s Auto Club 500 at lunchtime Monday, complete with his trademark backflip onto the grassy infield.The Fontana race was delayed by 2½ hours, delayed twice and marred by accidents on Sunday before the decision was made to finish the race today at the newly renamed Auto Club Speedway of Southern California..
Jimmie Johnson was leading after 87 laps when racing was suspended; he finished second. Jeff Gordon took third.
Riverside native David Gilliland finished 17th.
The Nationwide Series Stater Bros. 300 — originally scheduled for Saturday and rained out for a second time on Sunday — on Monday afternoon was dominated by winner Tony Stewart. Edwards, one of several drivers to run both races, finished fifth.
