Beatrice Mae Renfro, widow of Robert L. Renfro, passed away on May 27, 2009 at Riverside Community Hospital of complications following pneumonia. She was 88. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 30, 1921 to Herman Andrew and Myrtle Marie Paul.
She grew up in Southern California. For a time, her family had a homestead in Victorville where she graduated from Victor Valley High School in 1939. That same year she moved to Riverside and worked at the old Ruby’s Diner on Market Street until her marriage to Bob, a second-generation citrus-grower and later president of National Orange Co. and Natoco Groves, in 1941.
She graduated from RCC with degrees in nursing in her fifties, worked at Riverside Community Hospital for several years, and retired as a Registered Surgical Nurse. She enjoyed her dogs, collecting antiques, and photography. Two years ago, at age 86, she took up golf for the first time.
She is survived by all her children: Paul, Raymond, Susan, David, and Jeffrey of Riverside; and John of Yuba City; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and her sister Pauline Devaney of Reno, Nevada.
Final arrangements were handled by the Neptune Society and her ashes interred at Evergreen Memorial Park in Riverside.
She requested no funeral or memorial service, and the family suggests in lieu of flowers a donation to an animal shelter of your choice.
