An Arlington High School student was hit and killed by a Metrolink train while walking to classes early Wednesday morning.

According to the Riverside Police Department, the boy waited for a westbound train to clear the Jackson Street crossing and stepped onto the tracks and into the path of an eastbound train.

Police say the crossing arms were in place and that lights and bells were working.

The Riverside County coroner’s office later identified the boy as 14-year-old Samuel Sung Jae Shin of Riverside.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Lt. Bruce Loftus at (951) 353-7965.
