Angels survive — just barely

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim beat the Boston Red Sox, 5-4, in 12 innings in Boston on Sunday night. That keeps the Angels alive in the American League playoff race; Boston now leads the series, two games to one.

Catcher Mike Napoli hit two balls over the Green Monster, the second to tie the game.

Elsewhere, the Phillies defeated the Brewers to win the divisional series; Philadelphia will face the Los Angeles Dodgers for the National League championship.

And in Sunday’s other AL game, the White Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays to stay alive in their division; Tampa leads, two games to one.
