Altura accepts Haiti donations; update on the arrival of help and supplies

The UN’s deputy chief in Haiti has been seeing first-hand some of the challenges facing aid workers in the country, as he took a quick tour of Jacmel on the southern coast, where half the town’s population are homeless.

With two billion dollars pledged in international aid, and new NGOs arriving to help almost daily, coordinating efforts effectively in Haiti is now a mammoth task.

Locally Altura Credit Union is handling donations for the Haiti relief fund.

President Obama signed a law allowing cash donations for Haiti relief, made in 2010, to be deducted on 2009 taxes.
