Betty "Jean" Ortego
Betty “Jean” Ortego of Romoland, California passed on to her eternal home in Heaven on January 26, 2010. Born Betty Jean McCaughn November 16, 1934 in Tyler County, Texas, she moved to Southern California in 1954 when she met and married James Parker Bankston.
They moved to Norco with their three children in 1963. “Jim” preceded her in death in 1970. She married Donald Ortego of Corona, California in 1975. They enjoyed 33 years together living in Norco and then moving to Romoland where they retired to do “living things”.
Jean was a published poet and songwriter and she loved music and dance. She was a devoted wife and mother and was extremely proud of her grown children. She was also proud of her Texas heritage and she loved America. In retirement Jean and Don’s avocation was real estate. They also enjoyed travel and quiet times together at home.
Jean is survived by her son: Gary Bankston; daughters Dawna Marshall and Lisa Peardon; grandchildren Kenny Peardon; Kasey Van Lant, and Mason Marshall; three great-grandchildren McKenzee Peardon, Riley Peardon, and Ryland Van Lant.
She is also survived by her sister Nina Cummins of Beaumont Texas; brothers John E. McCaughn of Beaumont Texas and Larry McCaughn of Abilene Texas.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 5th, 2010 at 10:30AM.
