Altura Credit Union awards $59,000 in scholarships

alturascholarships22.jpg The Altura Credit Union Foundation has awarded $59,000 in college scholarships to high school students graduating across Riverside County.

The money was awarded to seniors graduating this year from 28 Riverside County high schools in 15 school districts.  Last year, Altura awarded $46,000 in scholarships.

The Altura Scholarship Foundation awarded $1,000 individual scholarships to 59 Riverside County high school seniors. This year 388 students applied for scholarship assistance.

“Altura has always been a strong supporter of education, our local schools and our local students,” said Mark Hawkins, Altura president, in a statement released by the credit union.

The foundation was started in 1993.  Since that time more than 300 students have received scholarships. The program is funded in part by Altura members - $5 from the one-time $12 membership fee goes to the scholarship fund.
