Choppers pull water from Sun Lakes to battle the Banning fire. Firefighters in Riverside County are battling what’s been called the Gorgonio Fire. It is burning near Highway 243, south of Banning and north of Poppets Flats.
As of 1:45 p.m. on Saturday it had burned 300 acres. No buildings are threatened.

The wind-whipped fire erupted Thursday in the Camarillo area has burned through coastal wilderness and nearly doubled in size. After burning to the Pacific Ocean, a shift in winds caused the flames to reverse course and burn inland.

Current weather: 80 degrees, 8% RH, WNW wind 16 MPH, gusting to 20 MPH. The fire is at 650 acres.
