Rialto men sentenced in plea deal in near-fatal beating of Giants fan

Two Rialto men were sentenced to prison Thursday in connection with the Dodger Stadium parking-lot beating of a San Francisco Giants fan after the opening-day game in 2011.

Marvin Norwood, 33, pleaded guilty to felony assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury; Louie Sanchez, 31, pleaded guilty to felony mayhem. In exchange for the guilty pleas, other felony charges were dropped. Norwood was sentenced to four years, but with credit for two years spent in custody, he was scheduled for release; at that time, federal authorities plan to take him into custody on weapons charges. Sanchez was sentenced to eight years.

Bay-area paramedic Bryan Stow, now 45, suffered severe brain damage as a result of the attack and is unable to care for himself. His family is currently suing the Dodgers.
