Woman rescued from fire at Riverside retirement apartments

News headline from the Riverside Fire Department:

On December 23, 2013 at approx. 6:49 a.m., the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in a retirement complex near the 4700 block of Jackson Street.  The first arriving engine reported light smoke showing from an upstairs apartment.

The first arriving units received reports of a possible victim still inside of the apartment.

Firefighters found an elderly female on the floor near the front door, she was unconscious and unresponsive.  The firefighter/paramedics pulled her to safety and initiated advanced life support which included oxygen and cardiac monitoring.

The fire was quickly located and knocked down, it was confined to a mattress in the master bedroom; no extension of the fire was found in the attic area or the adjacent apartment.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation.

The patient was treated and transported to a local area hospital for further treatment and evaluation. She suffered smoke inhalation. No burn injuries were reported.
