Former Riverside County sheriff’s deputy convicted of second-degree murder

Dayle Long, a former Riverside County sheriff’s deputy, was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday for the off-duty killing of a Winchester man in a Murrieta bar. Sam Vanettes was shot six times after an argument at Spelly’s Pub & Grille in 2011; Long claimed he fired in self-defense.
