The 20,292-acre Silver Fire near Banning was at 90 percent containment Sunday evening, with full containment expected sometime on Monday, according to Cal Fire.
Twelve people — eleven firefighters and one civilian — have been injured in the blaze, which was first reported on Wednesday afternoon. Twenty-six homes, one commercial building and 21 outbuildings have been destroyed; two additional residences and six outbuildings have been damaged, according to authorities.
Highway 243 remains closed between Banning and Poppet Flats. All evacuations have been lifted, though the Pacific Crest, Marion Mountain and Seven Pines hiking trails and Marion Mountain, Fern Basin, Dark Canyon, Black Mountain and Boulder Basin campgrounds are closed.
Sunday’s increase in acreage is attributed to better mapping rather than spreading flames, according to Cal Fire.
Cal Fire is also estimating the cost to fight the fire at $8,862,33.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
