Redlands teacher who had student’s baby accepts plea deal

A teacher at Redlands’ Citrus Valley High School who had a baby by one of her students — and was accused of having sex with two other students — will spend a year in prison and five years on probation as part of a plea deal.

As part of the deal Laura Whitehurst, 28, pleaded guilty on July 31 to six of the 41 felony counts she faced. Whitehurst was sentenced on Wednesday.

Whitehurst gave birth on June 18 and she was arrested July 1. The baby’s father, who turned 18 in August, and his mother protested Whitehurst’s plea arrangement.
