Firefighters were able to strengthen and increase containment lines on the Silver Fire on Saturday, bringing containment up to 70 percent and full evacuations down to just the Silent Valley RV Park, according to Cal Fire.
The fire, near Banning and Cabazon, has burned an estimated 19,000 acres since Wednesday.
Ten people have been injured, most of them firefighters.
Cal Fire has updated the damage reports to include the 26 homes and one commercial building previously reported as well as an additional 21 outbuildings. Two residences and six outbuildings were damaged.
Highway 243 remains closed from Poppet Flats Road to Wesley Street in Banning.
Residents only will be allowed back into the previous evacuation areas for the short term; owners of RVs in the Silent Valley park will be allowed access on Sunday morning.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
