Hot, dry conditions spark concerns over fireworks sales

Record-setting heat and dry conditions in Southern California have authorities on the alert for illegal fireworks around the Fourth of July holiday. In Riverside County, only a few desert cities allow the sale and use of state-approved fireworks — Blythe, Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs and Indio.

In San Bernardino County, state-approved fireworks are permitted in Adelanto, Barstow, Chino, Colton,
Fontana, Grand Terrace, Rialto and the City of San Bernardino.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the force has a zero-tolerance policy for illegal fireworks, and those caught will be subject to fines, citations, arrest and confiscation of fireworks.
