Longtime “The Young and the Restless” star Jeanne Cooper died Wednesday at 84, according to her son, actor Corbin Bernsen.
The Emmy-winning actress portrayed matriarch Katherine “Kay” Chancellor Murphy for 40 years on the popular CBS soap opera.
Bernsen announced the death via Facebook and Twitter. “My mother passed away this morning just a short time ago, peaceful with my sister by her side, in her sleep,” he wrote. “She has been a blaze her entire life…”
Cooper’s career included movie roles in “Shadows of Tombstone, “The Man from the Alamo,” “The Redhead from Wyoming,” “Tony Rome” and “The Boston Strangler” as well as numerous appearances on classic TV series; she also guest-starred as Bernsen’s mother on his TV series, “L.A. Law.”
