Sen. Arlen Specter dies at 82

Senator Arlen Spector has died at 82, according to his son Shanin.

Sen. Arlen Specter was elected as a Republican in the Senate from 1980. He became a Democrat in 2009, the following year he did not win the primary contest for his seat.

On May 12, 2010, Vice President Joe Biden campaigned in support of Sen. Arlen Specter. (Video of the campaign stop is on the right of this screen.)

Specter suffered Hodgkin’s disease in 2005 and is know to have had a cancer diagnosis in 2008.
