The California State University system of colleges is expected to announce a new chancellor on Thursday.
The group of 23 colleges is currently led by Chancellor Charles Reed, who is responsible for a budget that tops $5 billion.
Reed has held the job since 1998, and managed budget cuts as a result of California’s budget crisis.
The California State University offers students more than 1,200 bachelor’s degree programs, 783 master’s programs, and 29 joint doctoral programs in 319 areas of study.
It’s estimated that 427,000 students attend CSU colleges.
